Fewer students in public school means fewer teachers, and fewer teachers means less money contributed into their retirement system. An official analysis of the voucher bill (SB2) notes that there is real risk that the Teachers Retirement System (TRS) would no longer be ‘actuarially sound’ without increased contributions. That means today's teachers would have to make bigger contributions out of their paychecks in order to maintain retirement benefits for everyone.
Vouchers would effectively lower pay for public school teachers---another important reason to stand against them!
